The University has attracted some of the world's best talent over the years and has produced six Nobel Prize winners. Its student union was voted the best university student union by the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey. The University currently has around 30,000 students, with international students accounting for 25% of the University's student body. In recent years, the University has spent £21 million on building a new School of Engineering, student residences and student union facilities.
Subject Introduction:
The University has five faculties, namely Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry and Health, Science, and Social Science, and offers over 350 subjects for students to choose from. In The Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022, Biological Science, Civil Engineering and Computer Science are all ranked in the top 20 in the UK, with Dentistry, Architecture, Communication & Media Studies ranked in the top 20. Architecture, Communication & Media Studies and Mechanical Engineering are also ranked in the top 10 in the UK.
Geographical location:
The University is located in Sheffield, the fourth largest city in England, in the heart of the UK. It is only an hour's drive from the nearby cities of Leeds and York, and an hour and thirty minutes from the nearest airport, Manchester. Sheffield is one third of the city's national park and is the greenest, most environmentally friendly and peaceful city in England.
