The Largest Global Education Expo:

Citizens’ Desire for Overseas Studies Remains Unwavering

The "Global Education Expo 2025," co-organized by Amber Education, aec Education Consultancy, and Coopers & Coopers, will be held on 3rd-4th May2025, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. Nearly 100 institutions from around the world, covering local and overseas primary, secondary, tertiary, and continuing education colleges, will gather in Hong Kong to provide information on both local and overseas study options, promoting global education. The expo aims to attract over 5,000 participants.

Destinations for further studies are no longer limited to the UK and Australia, which have long been popular among Hong Kong residents. In recent years, more parents and students have inquired about other countries such as the United States, New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and China, indicating a trend towards globalized education. In light of this, we hope to provide a platform that offers diverse options for students planning to study abroad and the opportunity to interact directly with school representatives, helping them better understand international education and career prospects, thus finding their future study directions.

With the relaxation of BNO immigration policies to the UK, many parents are now prioritizing sending their children to study in the UK. The UK educational system is similar to Hong Kong’s old system, and as the birthplace of English, studying in the UK allows students to learn the most authentic English. After graduation, students can apply for a UK work visa to continue working in the UK or return to Hong Kong for employment. Whether considering immigration to the UK or returning to Hong Kong to work, study abroad experiences enhance competitiveness in society.

UK schools are internationally renowned, with four universities among the top 10 in global rankings. Generally, local universities offer three-year bachelor’s programs, graduating students a year earlier than in Hong Kong; however, universities in Scotland require four years of study. Some professional courses, such as medicine, pharmacy, and architecture, require four to six years. Additionally, there are foundation programs, diploma programs, and International Year 1 courses that connect to degree programs for Hong Kong students who do not meet the admission requirements of UK universities. The diversity of university programs is vast, offering many more subject options than available in Hong Kong, such as chiropractic, aerospace engineering, disaster management, museum studies, and veterinary courses. Consequently, it is relatively easier for students to gain admission to their desired fields of study.

UK universities accept DSE results for admissions, with entry requirements varying by university ranking and subject availability. Generally, students need to achieve scores of 554 to 444 in three subjects in the DSE exams, with some specialized courses requiring 5*55. Moreover, universities require students to possess a certain level of English proficiency, with a minimum score of 6.0 in the IELTS exam.

Besides the UK, Australia is also a popular destination for Hong Kong students, boasting a pleasant climate, comfortable living conditions, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere with many students from around the world. Its "Group of Eight" consists of Australia’s prestigious universities, known for their outstanding alumni in global politics and business, including several Nobel Prize winners. Australian universities have flexible starting dates, with courses commencing in late February or early March, and some programs allowing mid-year entry in July. There are three pathways for students to enter Australian universities. The first pathway is for sixth-form graduates with Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education results; if their academic performance and English proficiency meet university requirements, they can apply directly to Australian universities. The second pathway involves enrolling in a foundation course before progressing to a local university. The third pathway is through public TAFE institutions, registered training organizations, or vocational education and training courses offered by universities and high schools, focusing more on practical and professional training.

In recent years, Canada has also become an ideal destination for further studies. The Canadian government recently announced that Hong Kong residents working or graduating there can apply for permanent residency, attracting many to start planning their future. Canada ranks high worldwide for education and quality of life. Universities offer a wide range of courses; students wishing to enroll in bachelor’s degree programs need to achieve good results in secondary school public examinations, and must also meet TOEFL requirements for university consideration. Furthermore, university transfer programs are a popular pathway for high school graduates to gain university admission. Students can complete two years at a Canadian college and earn recognized credits before applying to enter the second or third year of a university program. Some private institutions work closely with specific universities, allowing students who complete transfer courses and meet academic requirements to smoothly transition into the university's second year. Generally, students can complete a bachelor’s degree in four to five years, similar to those directly entering a university.

Speaking of Switzerland, its hospitality management program is quite renowned, boasting over a hundred years of history. Most senior executives in international hotels and chains are graduates of Swiss institutions, so their hospitality management diplomas
